Resizing - Newbie Question

Hello and thanks for the help!  I am new to AD and to digital work in general.

I have created the attached document and the client wants a jpeg.  Somehow I have created an artboard that is 40.54 in x 57.329 in. and I need to change it to an A4 size (when I export as-is, the jpeg is huge).  I can't seem to figure out how to accomplish this.  Thanks again for any direction.

Best method would be to create an A4 document and copy/paste the artwork into that document and then resize it to fit the A4 area.

1. Select the move tool (V)
2. In the original large document select the group not the artboard from the layers panel
3. Press cmd + C or go to Edit > Copy
4. Now Go to File > New and create a document that is A4 300dpi
5. Now from the Navigator panel zoom out to 10%
6. Paste the copied group into the new A4 document cmd + V or Edit > Paste
7. Now you need to scale the group down to fit the page so lets try a bit of layers magic

Move the curve layer as indicated in 1. above the group.

Should look like this

Make the group a child of the layer above

1. Change the opacity of the curve layer so that you can see the document below
2. With the move tool selected., click on the curve layer and resize to A4 210mm x 297mm in the transform panel and then align it to the page.
3. You can now remove the group and place the curve layer back at the bottom of the group and the artwork should neatly fit the page.

I think it's a bit more simple to type in 8.268 for the width of the artboard?
You already have the right proportions. Just make sure width and height are linked and that Lock Children isn't checked.

Or on jpg export assign a width of 2480.315 px. (I'd use Lanczos non-sep).

Instead of using an awkward number of decimal inches, wouldn’t it be even simpler to type the width as 210 mm for an A4 portrait artboard?

Ha! Just trying to keep it in the units of the original file. But does it really matter? It's just a copy and paste from the new doc dialog.
No thinking required . Just the way I like it .
