Wenn I search for line endings via a regular expression search for newline (\n) characters, the search result list shows me \n\r as line endings, what's that?

think that's how Publisher shows a paragraph break. It has always done that, even before the regex support was added.

"\n" new line... puts you down one line.

                                                                     "\r" return... puts you to the beginning of the line.

Now I am here. Confusing and redundant in the modern world. I believe these are holdovers from the good old days when the graphic interface was a teletype printer.

So it then probably meant as an Alinea sign indicator then, aka ¶ (Unicode U+00B6 pilcrow sign, HTML-Entity ¶), since on a Unix system (OSX) you usually only use NL and not CRNL as on Win systems.
