Have you tried Preferences>User Interface?   Perhaps the light option, with adjusted sliders, will help?

Sadly, the iPad apps don’t yet have a ‘Light UI’ option.

Didn’t notice he was asking about the iPad.   Stupid me.   Always a good idea to read the fine print first!

It’s very easy to miss that important detail. I’m sure I’ve done it lots of times myself!
