VectorCat
..as before? Now that 1.2 is out, and the betas reflect the latest fixes and improvements, we should be using them?
Staff Andy Somerfield Posted April 12, 2015 Staff Share Posted April 12, 2015 Yep - the beta are a continuous thing - so if you want the very latest, use the beta :) Thanks, Andy.
Dave Harris
While being aware that files saved by the betas may not load into Mac App Store versions.
Achim63
Which leads to the feature request of "backward compatibility". While such a feature is not really easily maintained, an older version of AD could at least display anything that it "understands", bringing up a warning requester telling us that certain elements or features will not be included (maybe with the buttons "Cancel" and "Open anyway"). Dave Harris
We actually did that with PagePlus, and deliberately decided not to attempt it with Affinity. It's hard, mainly because the older version can't know what the newer version is trying to do or whether it can safely be ignored. In practice, when we released (eg) PagePlus X4 we often had to also release a new version of PagePlus X3 to be compatible with it. The X4 would be a paid-for upgrade and the new X3 a free one (if you had the previous X3). That model doesn't apply now, because we don't have paid-for upgrades of Affinity, and because we have to go through the App Store. If we could release a MAS version of 1.2 that could ignore features in the current beta, we would just update it to the current beta instead.
