Canon EOS R/CR3 Support for iOS and Mac

Recommended Posts

I have the Canon EOS R, and I know that it is not currently supported by the Serif raw engine on Affinity Photo Desktop. However, the EOS R is listed as supported by Apple Core Image Raw, so it works when the Apple Raw engine is selected. I want to know if the EOS R CR3 raw files work on Affinity Photo iPad with the SD-Lighting adapter, because I do not want to buy Affinity iPad and an SD-Lightning adapter until compatibility is finished. I know that the EOS R should be supported by Apple Core Image Raw on the iPad, but when I try AirDrop any CR3 files over, iOS does not recognize them as photos. If I try using older CR2 raw files, iOS recognizes them.

Bump on this too...just bought a new Canon and am trying to setup a workflow on just an iPad. It seems that the CR3 file is still not supported. Bought Affinity over Lightroom as Adobe wanted me to also add a subscription to open all features. I read that this was the best alternative. The app has great function but there seems to be a long list of requests to get this file type supported with not a lot of positive response.

Is this on the roadmap anytime soon?

Thanks

All RAW support for Affinity applications on iOS is provided by Apple. If it's not supported now then only Apple can say when it will be. Their current list for iOS12 is here.

That’s the issue Walt. It shows as 'supported'. (Canon EOS R).

Just tried again and now it opened fine. I’m now on iPadOS 13.1 (last time I tested with iOS 12). :D

Still not able to open on mine. Must be because it’s a Mark II???

Opens fine on my iPad Pro 9.7” after loading from the new Downloads folder.

Thanks, Paul!

I think it might actually have to do with the device I am using itself. I moved my convo over to the iPad section vs desktop and sent one of my images to see if they can open it. The G5X shows supported by Apple but not the G5X Mark II.

Appreciate your input!

Dave

Or the iOS level you're running?

Shouldn’t be...10.5” iPad Pro with iPadOS 13.1.2. I am all over updates with software updates (in the cybersecurity field). The only variable that I am seeing out of all this is the camera platform itself...the Mark II. We shall see what the other gentleman finds with my sample file.

I have just purchase an EOS R6 and was disappointed to learned that my iPadOS 14 was unable to develop the .cr3 raw files.
First I thought it was an issue with the file, so I tried on my MacBook. It worked fine on the MacBook.
I have been working with Affinity Photo on my iPad since it’s launch and prefer it over the MacBook. After the excitement of owning my first full frame camera, it was rather disappointing to find out that I’m unable to develop the .cr3 files on my iPad. Hope there will be an update or fix soon.

If it opens on MacBook it should open in current iPad photo beta which has the option to use Serifs raw engine.🙂
