Best techniques for blending colors(shadows)?

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody,

at first i have to say that i´m deeply impressed of the Affinity products. Beautiful UI, beautiful features, good job.

Personally i´m interested in digital painting and concept art. I try to use AP for these things.

My problem is that i don´t know how to blend my shadows well. So which techniques and brushes could you recommend?

Maybe you can give me some examples.

greetings from Germany.

Hi noname,

Welcome to the forums.

The best person would be MEB, as he is great at drawing Lambos! He has loads of help and advice to offer.

As for brushes...Paolo Limonelli. King of brushes, he is! You should see his Road Runner backdrop: jaw dropping would be a good description! https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/user/2042-paololimoncelli/

Don't forget to visit the road map to see what's coming next.

As for the various tutorials, MEB has kindly posted these links here

Should be enough to get the ball going.

Enjoy Affinity

What do you mean when you talk about "shadows blending"?

If you're talking about "value painting" the best set to approach this technique is probably Gouaches.

With these tools strokes overlap gradually blending with an "average" colour mode.

This is an illustration I'm working on using this set.
