Saving files using trial version

Recommended Posts

I'm currently sampling the trial version of Affinity and have found that amended files are saved with an Affinity logo and no thumbnail and cannot be opened without kicking of the Affinity programme.  Is this a quirk of the trial version?

If not, in the future:

1. How would I browse my photos as thumnails?

2. How would anyone I send or copy these pictures to be able to open them without Affinity?

Hi Pete D,

Welcome to the forums :)

This is not a quirk of the trial, no matter which version of an Affinity app you're running, when Saving a file it will always save in a native Affinity format that only Affinity apps can open. (.afphoto, .afdesign & .afpub)

To do either of these you will need to first Export your document into an image format, usually JPEG or PNG. To learn about exporting from Affinity Photo please check out the following video!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

Go to Edit / Preferences / General and tick the "Save thumbnails with documents" box.  Your file manager (Explorer or whatever Macs have) will now display .afphoto files just like other image formats.

Welcome to the forums @tia453324
I think your operating system should still be able to display the file contents via the thumbnail functionality but you might only get a low-res version.
Alternatively you could download and install a trial copy of either Designer or Publisher and open the file in one of those (although you will only be able to do that for 10 days until that trial also expires).
