Subtracting Pattern does not create Compound

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm new to Affinity Designer, and am trying to create a lozenge pattern.

I have created two rows of lines, expanded stroke and Added, creating a single shape.

I then created a rectangle, selected the lozenge pattern and the rectangle and Subtracted. This resulted in the pattern I wanted (see attached).

However, I expected this to create a compound – I want to colour a few lozenges differently. But it didn't. I can't have the lozenges as separate, individual shapes.

Am I doing something wrong? Or it duplicating this shape and deleting all the points I don't want the only way to do this?

Thank you.
