So far, the only way I can find to move pages is to drag and drop them one at a time. Am I missing something?

I would like to be able to select one or more contiguous pages in the sidebar and choose a new place to insert them in the document, e.g., a contextual menu "Move..." with a dialog to specify a target page and whether to insert the currently selected pages before or after the target.

I thought perhaps I could define a set of pages as a section and then move the sections around, but that doesn't seem to be how that feature works. It would be great if you could drag and drop the sections to reorder them.

Thanks,
Jason

On Windows, with .227, I am able to select a range of pages in the Pages panel (click (or possibly double-click) on the first one, shift-click on the last) and then drag them to a new location. So, it's not "one at a time", but it is a manual drag and drop operation. No dialog-based operation for it.

I agree, I'm working on a document which is over 150 pages, clicking and dragging is not an ideal solution imagine dragging 7 pages from page 125 to page 3, there should be a way to just select "move after x page " or "move after x page" dialog, I'd like to see this feature and perhaps testing the software with large projects in mind.

is there also a way to not automatically have your pages be laid out as spreads? I need to show a few different variations of a flyer to a client, but instead of having them as spreads I would like them to be displayed underneath each other in the working document.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

You can have facing-page spreads laid out horizontally or vertically when you create the document.

Or, when you create the document (or later, via Document Setup) you can set the Facing Pages option off. You then have individual pages.

For now, the option Document > Add pages from file may help with awkward moves like this.

Save your document (Doc1)
Save as... to another document name (Doc2)
In Doc1 select item Document > Add pages from file and choose pages and where to place them from Doc2
Delete now redundant pages in Doc1

+1 from 2022, this feature is necessary when making a book instead of a poster or a booklet...

Exactly.  The ability to move pages via a dialogue box as happen in InDesign is essential for book design or any publication which has more that 24pp. I I have no idea how code for making functions happen work but given all the other functions of AfPub it can't be that difficult to devise the code for moving pages.

Oh wow, this sucks big time... recently moved from InDesign and have a document with about 300 pages and need to shuffle pages... surely there's a context similar to ID such as "move before/after"? Dragging and dropping is simply not time effective in this situation.. also, if I select multiple pages, the page bar does not scroll to allow me to move them, I literally have to drag them incrementally a couple of steps at a time... 🙄

I totally agree with your comment. I moved the AfPub so as to avoid the domination of Adobe and also to support the principles behind Affinity. However they seem to be concentrating on Designer and Photo as most of the 'owners' of the apps probably don't do any book or publishing work. Perhaps there could be a subset of AfPub users who could get together to lobby for more attention to be paid to the printed word.

Any takers?

cheers

You might try dragging the Pages panel wider, and possibly changing its icon size.

You could also create a new document, and use Document > Add Pages from File to bring pages in in the proper order.

One caution, though, if you use Facing Pages. It's very difficult to move anything except complete 2-page Spreads without messing up the page content. I'm still not sure of the best way to move individual pages.

HI Walt  I note you have commented and assisted on a couple of other occasions when I have struck trouble so I am heartened to read your interest in the topic. However that really isn't an option as in book production there may well be the need to place an image next to a reference so one page is inserted. Adding even numbers of pages often does not make sense to where a chapter need to end on a left hand page, etc. Anyway Affinity needs to get its act together to make this an important upgrade to AfPub

I moved the panel for pages wider I also created a color backdrop so I knew which chapter I was in then I can see where pages I wanted to go can be rearranged and it moves much faster.  I can also move whole sets of work this way if I wanted to.  The key for me was to make the title pages colored backgrounds so i don't need to read the page to know.
