Nikon Z6 Support

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I’ve just preordered a Nikon Z6 with the new wide angle z lens. It’s a package that won’t arrive until April, ish. I searched the forums for Z6 support to find out that it’s not currently supported!!! Unfortunately I do all my editing on my iPad Pro as I don’t have a desktop/laptop (too expensive to get the power I wanted), so without an editing program for my iPad I’m buggered! I realise this is asking how long a piece of string is, but how long does it normally take to get support on new cameras? Is it likely to be by April?

Thanks

Darren

Hi Darren, unfortunately the solution to your problem resides with Apple’s raw engine, not with Affinity Photo. When Apple update their RAW engine to cater for the Nikon Z6, it will work in any apps that utilise that engine. Perhaps contact Apple? They seem to make regular updates and continually add new cameras models.

Affinity Photo 1.10.5 Affinity Design 1.10.5
Affinity Publisher 2, Affinity Designer 2, Affinity Photo 2 and betas.

Hi,

i got got the following email from Apple:-

Hi Darren,

Thanks for contacting us. I’ve included some information below to help with this.

If you continue to have issues with content in this app, please contact the app’s developer directly, they may have more specific troubleshooting steps for their app.  Use this link to contact the app’s developer:

https://affinity.serif.com/forum

Note: Although we mentioned third-party products in this email, Apple doesn’t recommend or endorse these products.

If you still need help after contacting the app's developer, reply to this email. I’m here to help.

Thanks,

So so it brought me back to the forum. I then looked into the link at the top of this message and checked the iOS 12 list. Z6&7 are shown on that list. So does that mean they’ve done what you said about Apples Raw engine?

Thanks

Darren.

Nikon RAW L format only ( stated in the fine print) .  So Raw L format setting should work in Affinity Photo. Check what format your camera is set to record raw in.

Edit. Incorrect sorry, the fine print was referring to D models. It appears the Z6 should work fine with AP.

Nah AFAI can see on Apple's site only the D5 and D500 are affected here in terms of the L-RAW format, for the new mirrorless Z6/Z7 models it isn't stated like that there! - Where did you saw that only the L RAW format is supported for a Z6?

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

You are correct, my mistake! In that case the OP should have no issues. :)

Since it seems the OP want's to do mostly all of his photo workflow on an iPad, the following might be useful to take a closer look at for him then:

Further there are also some other tools too here which allow the RAW development on an iPad with the help of the Apple supplied RAW engine like ...

... etc.

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
