Fix RTL for Arabic, Persian and Hebrew languages

I think I came up with temporary solution.
Someone on Twitter achieved vertical text by creating custom font.
This can be applicable to rtl languages.(in similar way)
First, you create horizontally filliped font using a font creator software.
Then use that font on a text frame then flip the text frame horizontally.
Voila!

This will only work for RTL languages such as Hebrew, where the letter shapes don’t change. It won’t work for Arabic, because the letter shapes depend on the neighbouring letters.

Bt"w, in my opinion it's worth to hire programmers only for this purpose. it's a 100 percent guarantee they will get back the money (With large percentages) very fast, taking in mind  that they are opening the way for new hundreds of thousands of graphic designers (and maybe millions over the time) who can't work without this supports.

I agree with your point here @Glicky, 100%.   There is no good end to ignoring such numbers of people (or such potential profit, if looking at it from a purely business angle).   I guess we must live in hope for now, with pro-active stances taken such as this:

Agree, actually I'm planning to find an engineer who is specialist in Asian language processing to introduce to Serif.

Soon  someone from our group is going to visit Serif headquarter to interview with them to promote Affinity in Japan.
And we'll discuss with them directly about the development plan.

Wishing you luck, @ashf.  Would love to hear how this goes.

I see, I don't know Arabic at all.
But I'm just helping RTL language people to solve the inconvenience somehow since I too have similar inconvenience. This is just a trick as temporary solution.
Honestly Serif should solve this problem at once ASAP.

An interesting article about the recent growth of Affinity in Japan can be found on this German website:

https://affinitytutorials.de/affinity-big-in-japan/  , ... mentioning large Japanese interest in this article of a Tokyo Design School about Affinity apps:

A little less informative but expressing enthusiasm is this interview with a Japanese web designer and user of AfDesigner since 2014:

@thomaso Affinity User Group Japan held their first workshop with 30 seats and it's gone to 186 registrations.

They will hold 2nd workshop with 100 seats in Sept.

Also 30-40% of entire Affinity related tweets on Twitter are Japanese.

I love affinity photo but I'm so glad I did not bought affinity designer! I use Inkscape and even inkscape (a free program btw!) can do Arabic!

Edit: also that site is a hit or miss in writing so I import my writings from inkscape!

I think you could run a fundraising campaign on KickStarter or somewhere if you really need RTL support.
The same idea with Affinity for Linux.
Possibly need a couple of hundred thousand US dollar to implement it.
East Asian have similar problem with vertical writing, so Arabic/Jewish and East Asian can work together for it.

Hello Everyone,

Can you please clarify if RTL support is yet to come? I just purchased Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo, it didn't come to mind that Arabic is not supported since this problem has been solved years ago with other pro applications, noticed this issue from previous comments in this forum has been there since 2015, I really hope were close by now into supporting Arabic, Many Thanks for this awesome application.

Like I mentioned above, Serif won't implement it at least for a few years. probably v2.0 or later.

Who told you that? I'm sure it will be sooner. 🙄 it's one of the most requested feature!

Serif staff have consistently said that it is a big job and will take a long time. It will require, basically, a complete rewrite of the existing text layout part of the applications.

It's been a long time since their last response.

That's only less than one year old.
Many in this forum who is having RTL/vertical writing problem have been waiting for 5 years.

They indicate RTL won't be implemented before v2.0 that may be released at least 2 years later from now on.
