rui_mac
Will there be a way to Copy from AD and Paste to another application? I mean, will the clipboard also contain some version of the copied objects in a format that other applications could use? Bitmap or vectorial. Staff MattP Posted August 19, 2014 Staff Share Posted August 19, 2014 Hi, At the moment, we should be copying text (if you had some text selected) to the clipboard and a rasterised version of the selection in all other cases. I'd imagine that we'll have more in the future (i.e. copying the selection as SVG text onto the clipboard is entirely achievable, as is copying the style as CSS, or even code to create the selected objects in CoreGraphics, for example - although that's harder for us than other apps because we don't render our document via CoreGraphics and hence we get different visual effects and have greater capabilities) Are you testing this while Designer is still running? If you haven't closed it down, then I would expect this to work? (closing Designer loses its clipboard data at present) Cheers, Matt
rui_mac
I have Designer still running. And after doing Copy, it never goes to any other application. Even the Show Clipboard, in Finder, shows nothing.
Staff MattP Posted August 19, 2014 Staff Share Posted August 19, 2014 What version of OS X are you using? If you go to Designer, add some text then select some of the characters and hit Cmd+C to copy, then come back to Safari and hit paste in the reply box here, does the text paste into this box? rui_mac
Yes, text copies file. But it does not work with objects or lines. I'm on Mavericks.
Staff MattP Posted August 19, 2014 Staff Share Posted August 19, 2014 Hmm, if I draw an ellipse, for example, select it then copy, open Pages and paste... I get a bitmap of that ellipse pasted onto the page. Does this not work at all for you? (sorry, I'm just trying to confirm a like-for-like test)
rui_mac
No, it doesn't paste. Actually, the Paste command appears dithered.
Staff MattP Posted August 20, 2014 Staff Share Posted August 20, 2014 I realised what this was while trying to go to sleep last night - your document isn't RGB8, so other apps have no idea what to do with the image on the clipboard (which is in the document's colour space). This needs sorting, sorry.
rui_mac
Do all programmers find solutions for problems while getting ready to sleep? This happens to me all the time and when the solution flashes in my mind at those inconvenient times, I feel like jumping out of bed and try it out ;-)
