ŃON-layered PDF export needed PDF 1.3

Recommended Posts

Note that Ghostscript (free) has command-line utilities to convert a PDF file to a PostScript file, and to convert a PostScript file to a PDF file.

It looks like you can give it an option to tell it what version of PDF to write, so it might be possible to convert a file to PDF 1.3 using that.

I haven't tested to see how much might be lost in the translation when using this - I don't know if this maintains spot colors for example - but it might be worth a look?

For me, the holy grail is not to bother with any command-line utilities, to worry what might get lost in translation... I think everyone wants to get the result in one step instead of two... that is the whole point of using software, is it not? Thanks for the advice anyway... it will sorely be helpful - Ghostscript is something you can bet on indeed...

One could suggest that the publisher should catch up to a few years ago and support the newer formats, or one could request that Serif consider implementing an alternative library to support the older formats when needed, but either way the two are evidently not directly compatible right now, so I was just trying to suggest a possible workaround.
