Embroidering Tiny Shapes Inside a Big Shape

Recommended Posts

Hello! So, I have a big shape. Since I've done some transformations and boolean operations on it, it's not something regular like a circle. It's actually a teardrop with parts of it having been cut out with masks. For all intents and purposes, it's now an arbitrary shape. I think of this shape as the "parent" shape.

I have another shape that's tinier and that I consider the "child" shape. This too might eventually be an arbitrary shape that's undergone its own transformations. However, for the time being, it's just a circle.

I'd like to "embroider" the parent shape with the child shape, if that makes any sense. By this I mean I'd like to make a repeating pattern of the child shape (a simple example would be rows that alternate in length; another example would be a tesselation like you'd see on a tile floor) and have that pattern snake around the inside of the parent shape, parallel with the parent shape's border by some offset.

I'm hoping a feature like this isn't a pipe dream. I'd certainly be willing to break a task like this down into each of the curved path segments of the parent shape and do the manual labor if that's what it takes. At the end of the day, I really don't want to "eyeball" it and would rather have the peace of mind of knowing the embroidering patten does indeed align with the parent shape's border, curves and all. Thanks for any help!

Hi Boopamy,

Welcome to the forums :)

Unfortunately there's no automatic process for this currently, the best workflow would be to use symbols as summersara has described above.

I've moved this thread to our Feature Request section of the forums for our devs to see and consider adding this feature!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!
