How do I cut this in half?

Recommended Posts

..... and this is where I get stuck ....

Please, how do I cut the number 1 in half so I can use each half in a different place? (See attached image)

I used a font. I could draw it out, but this is supposed to be a quick project so I would like to use the font if possible.

I'm pretty sure I can use those buttons, with the circle and the square, at the top right, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make those work.

Am I close?

Convert the one into curves, draw a thin straight line or rectangle across the middle. The convert that line too into curves and expond stroke. - Now select both objects and perform a subtract operation on those. Afterwards divide the result.
