Affinity Photo (Mac) Beta 1.7 Requires Product Key

Recommended Posts

I've been using Affinity Photo 1.6.7. I now am trying to use AP Beta 1.7 (Mac). However, it requires a product key. I don't know how to retrieve/find my product key. I tried to go to the Affinity Site, but it doesn't even have my purchase of Affinity Photo (probably because I bought it from the Apple App Store). Both apps are in the same directory, and they used to work when in my main MacBook Pro Apps directory. But I moved them, so the Beta requires a Product Key.

How can I get my Product Key? (I certainly can't purchase the Beta from the App store...)

There are no product keys for apps purchased from the Mac App Store (MAS). The beta is asking for one because it can't find the MAS version because you moved it out of the top level Application folder on your Mac, which is where it looks for it.

Move the retail app back into the top level Application folder where it was installed automatically when you purchased it & the beta won't ask for a product key.

I have had the same problem since the beginning, unable to launch the beta, even though both apps are in Applications off root as far as I can tell. But I guess this is too rare to inspire a search for a solution.

AP 1.7.3, MacOS 10.14.6 (usually latest of each, but not going to Catalina until more issues are resolved)

Mac Mini, Late 2012, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB; HD replaced with SSD

It is not hard to see if all the Affinity apps are at the root level of the Applications folder. Do this:

  1. From Finder's "Go" menu, choose "Applications"
  2. In the window that opens switch to List view
  3. Click on the Name column to sort alphabetically by name

The names of all the Affinity apps begin with "Affinity," so if they are there they should be listed one above the other, like this:

is that what you see?

That's right. Also checked it in the Terminal since there was another Applications folder, but it is empty. (Will not be responding tonight if you have other thoughts, must sign off.)

I would like to only have the 1.7.0 beta only and delete 1.6.

You can't have that. You must have the 1.6 retail version installed to run the 1.7 customer beta.
