Publisher Persona?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

can anyone of the A-Team explain what is the Publisher Persona inside Publisher for?

What will it activate? Call another instance of Publisher? :)

I guess that Designer and Photo are being so tightly integrated, that they don't actually START the other applications but simply switch to the tools and allow you to work on objects in you Publisher file as if you were using Designer and Photo (literally being in there as personas) ... so, you would use the Publisher persona button to switch back to the Publisher persona after editing your image or vector graphic.

My opinion is that when you click on Photo/Designer Persona you will start the appropriate app and when you finish the job you will be automatically returned to Publisher.

Where do you find that Publisher Persona?

I see three Personas: Layout, Photo & Vector.

Yes, and the same applies to the other two Personas: Photo Persona has APhoto Icon and Vector Persona has the ADesigner Icon.

The Layout Persona is the currently  active main Persona of Publisher.

Do you reference to that?

Of course. They are named so, because Photo works with bitmap files mainly and Designer with vector ones.

Except that Photo has more Personas: Liqify, Tone Mapping, Export.

But yes, that's what the two of us discussed in the other thread: Let us use all Personas in one tool if we have the licenses so I need only to install Publisher.

Ha, ha, ha. I know that. I am in this business 25+ years. I just wonder what for is the Publisher persona in Publisher app? Like you put InDesign icon inside InDesign to call itself.

I guess it just confuses me that you call it "Publisher Persona", because my tooltip says "Layout Persona".

I wondered if you found something new.

And of course you need that icon to switch back after you worked in another Persona.

Publisher = Layout.

Designer = Vector.

Photo = Photo, bitmap.

  1. If you need to switch back from another persona back to Publisher, that suppose Publisher has ALL the features of Designer and Photo which would make these two apps unnecessary.
  2. By clicking Designer/Photo persona you will start the appropriate app and when you finish the job in them, then buy closing the file you should be returned back to Publisher with altererd file.

And maybe there is number...

3. Something like when you start Equation Editor inside Word. You got the EE interface to work within it and when you finish the equation and close the EE you are automatically back to Word. In this case you don't need to click Word/Publisher icon to be back in the main app.

"Insert Object" like in Word could a good idea. If this feature can be introduced in any Affinity app, we would have Equation Editor files or any other interesting app results.

Yes, you got that right except that there is no Bitmap Persona. (Designer has a Pixel Persona.) Photos main Persona is the "Photo Persona"

No, unfortunately you will only have access to the other apps main Personas. It makes Designer somewhat unnecessary, but Photo has a lot more Personas like Develop, Luiqify, Tone Mapping you won't have access too.

I just hope they will make the other two apps unnecessary by merging all Personas into one app. This is not the plan so far.

Of course they can sell access to modules seperate even if it's one app.

The software I work on does exactly that: You buy "modules" and pay for that.

No, this is what "Edit in Photo" does. This is a loose integration with file hand over and at best a workaround.

I'm certain the Personas will work in one tool making it a tight integrated app. This makes Publisher so powerful.

What you suggest here IMHO would be a total failure.

1. And what is photo? A bitmap file.

2. It will not happen. I would like this, but they are not interested in that.

3. I think itt will be removed when the personas will be activated.

Highly unlikely.

Best guess is that those other personas will allow access to only those specific personas of Photo and Designer - both programs have multiple personas in them so you would still use the Edit in Photo / Edit in Designer options to get access to the other personas.

Also, the existing released Photo and Designer have similar options to send files back and forth between each other.  Removing them from Publisher would create a rather silly inconsistency with the other apps in the suite.

Maybe all the features for all the apps could be located in a single library and individual apps would be only front ends to call those features. Like plugins in InDesign where about all functions are technically plugins.

I strongly assume that for Affinity.

The software I develop is structured that way that all seemingly individual apps are in reality just different views and toolbar sets of the same app. 90% is shared code.

Even the mobile version has 80% shared code anf the 20% is just plstform specific GUI binding. I doubt Affinity for iOS doed it otherwise.

The only thing here I'm not certain of is if every app conzains the same content and just changes the GUI or if they seperared functions into DLLs and Vector stuff is really excluded this way from Photo as the lib is not contained. @fde101 brought that idea up.
