UI Appearance in Affinity Photo - Are there only 2 choices?

Recommended Posts

I'm new to Affinity Photo and trying to set things up. I only seem to have two choices of it's appearance an Light and a Dark.
In the Dark, I can barely see the tools they're gray on gray.
In the Light, it's much too bright and wearing to my eyes.
I've tried the sliders for the gray, etc, but nothing much seems to change.
Is there a reason the tools are in color when  you click on view but just gray on the tool bar?
Am I overlooking something? (Probably, lol, there's a million choices!)
I'm working in a Windows 10 environment...
Thanks!

Hi Meenie50,

Welcome to the forum.

The UI does only have the Light and Dark options and the UI Gamma adjusts this slightly. Background Grey Level only affects the area surrounding the canvas, this has a range from Black to White, the same applies to the Artboard Background Level.

The left hand tool menu icons are displayed in colour once an image is opened or new document has been created. They can also be turned to monochromatic within Preferences > User Interface. Some icons on the Context Toolbar will only become available when certain tools or options are selected.

Thanks,  Lee D!

Lol, that's what I get for trying to set things up before opening a document!! Having the tools in color will be perfect with the dark background. With them all gray,  I had a hard time seeing what was what!:2_grimacing:

Thanks for being patient with a silly newby!!

There aren’t any silly questions as far as I am concerned.   These beautiful Affinity apps do have a learning curve, and the most beautiful part (I think) is that the Affinity moderators and technical support staff are here to answer anything and everything with such helpful pointers.    Many other people with several  years experience also reply in these forums with helpful solutions.    So ask away in these forums if you need help!    I have learned so much this way!!

I'm glad to see this isn't like them. We all have to be new at some point

18 months ago I bought Photo. Never seen it before. I had lots of help at the beginning and now I am considered a bit more knowledgeable, I pass that knowledge on.

A 'circle of life' type thing.

Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.

Some silly questions:

  • What is the definition of silly?
  • How do you spell silly?
  • Is regular putty less foolish than silly putty?
  • What are three synonyms for silly?
