Saving Photo after using Inpainting brush tool

Recommended Posts

So after a great deal of hassle finding the Inpainting brush tool, i used it and then clicked one Save. The saved photo however always appears together with Affinity and not as a stand-alone photo. I do not want the photo to appear with Affinity every time i click on it. I want to be able to put it back with the file-i photo where it came from. How do i do this? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Philip Thorpe,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
To "save" files in other formats other than our own native (.afphoto file) use File ▸ Export instead. Affinity only rewrites an existing file (processed files with no support for layers like JPG, PNG etc) if all the layers were flattened/merged into one first.

Thanks for all the comments. A word to MEB. Your last sentence is basically Chinese to me. What do you mean by flattened/merged?

JPG & PNG just have a single layer while TIF, PSD & aphoto can have multiple layers. By saving your document as JPG you loose that Information because it's merged.

If you read the linked discussion you find out that this distinction is so very important to Serif that they separated "Saving" and "Exporting". It's a bit artifical.

@MEB Sorry for answering ahead of you.

Hi @Philip Thorpe

Documents, images etc can be made up of several objects on layers, like resting on sheets of clear film. This makes it easy to move things around.

If you flatten the layers, all the objects are moved onto one layer, but you can no longer move the objects individually
