I'm a new user, and hopefully this is a simple request. But I've tried multiple approaches, and looked in the forum for answers without luck.

I have a file originally created in PhotoShop that includes multiple layers. One of them is a pixel-based image that I would use to create a complex selection with multiple gradients. In PhotoShop I could do this easily by copying the layer to the clipboard, going into Quick Mask, and pasting to create my selection. I could then choose the layer I wished to apply the selection to and proceed.

I would love advice as to how to do this in the simplest, most efficient way in Affinity Photo. Thanks!

Hi @WinslowC,

Welcome to the forums.

There is a way, but it involves one extra step.

You would need to duplicate the pixel layer you wish to use as a selection, and then go to Layer > Rasterise to mask. This will create a new layer mask just as PS does.

Thanks,

Gabe.

Thanks for the advice, which I'm sure is good. However, this Newbie is still frustrated and unable to do this seemingly simple task. If I could get step by step instructions, I would appreciate it. (And I know that several of the links provided go to step by step listings, but I have had no luck...) I'm attaching a screenshot of the layer that I wish to change into a selection which will let me make curve adjustments to the primary image. Thanks very much. I'm giving the application one more chance before returning to PS, which I've used since ver. 2.0.
