Smart Object support

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I'm loving my journey with Affinity designer at the moment. One feature I keep missing from photoshop however, is the ability to create smart objects.

I'm not fussed on being able to work with smart objects created in PSDs, I'd just like the support within Designer.

Does anyone know if this sort of thing will ever be possible?

Best

D

I'll start by saying I'm not a Photoshop user, and all I know about Smart Objects is what I just read one a web page about them. But from that page, much of their functionality already seems to be available in Designer via Placed images, non-destructive adjustment layers, and Symbols. Designer doesn't yet have Linked files, but it might get them in the future.

Assuming my understanding of Smart Objects is approximately correct, it might be beneficial for you to clarify your question to indicate which Smart Object functions you need, that aren't  already available.

Hi Danton,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
You can embed affinity documents (from any of the apps of the suite) inside other affinity documents to get a similar functionality (as smart objects). Double-clicking the embeded documents on canvas will open a new document tab to edit them independently. Closing this document tab will update the original document to reflect the changes you made.
