Removing Backgrounds using Blend modes

Recommended Posts

I am trying to remove the background of a particular image (attached below) but and I know that using blend modes on a fill layer I can remove the black and replace it with whatever colour I want, but I want the background to be transparent and I can't find a way to do that using blend modes which seem to be the best way to do this. I was wondering if there was a way to do this or a better method for removing the background of this image

Hi odoug04,

Welcome to the forums :)

There are a few ways of doing this, as your background is all one colour you could use blend ranges on the pixel layer. Select the image, then go to blend modes through the cog icon in the top right of the layers panel. Now in the left hand box - source layer ranges - click in the centre of the graph line to create a new node, then select the top left hand node and drag this to the bottom left of the grapha and you'll see your background disappear! See my below GIF for this in action:

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

Another way...

Layer > Invert
Filters > Colours > Erase White Paper
Layer > Invert

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.
