AP not saving/overwriting file opened from iCloud

Recommended Posts

After opening/editing a tif from iCloud storage on my iPad Pro in AP, saving from the project screen doesn't update the original in the Files app. I get the save dialogue with the original file name but nothing changes anywhere, not even a modified date. When I reopen the same tif from iCloud none of AP's edits are there. I haven't tried saving as a copy yet, but from what I've read, opening from and saving should overwrite the original file in its existing iCloud location. Is this normal behavior or am I missing something here?

Thanks!

Use open from cloud. Make edits. Tap menu, tap Save. Alternatively if finished, use back arrow and use 3bar menu to save. Just tested with iCloud and working for me. Note in opening no red square first time, in opening second time the iCloud copy has the red square.

When I try to open a file from iCloud and make edits in AP, there isn't a save option from the main drop down with the file open. Just shows a save a copy. If I hit the back button and tap the three bar menu, I get the option to save,  but even though it says it's saving the tif or whatever to iCloud, nothing happens. So stupid not to be able to edit in from Lightroom and save back.

Affinity project files have the extension .afphoto maintain all layers and are normally stored in the Affinity Photo folder either in iCloud or On my iPad folder, depending on setting under preferences, when you press save.

If you want to overwrite the original tiff file, use the export option instead and select save Affinity layers if that’s what you require, otherwise it will be saved flattened.

Also there does seem to be a bug in latest release for tif files see here.

@natedavid There are two ways to open files from cloud. Open and import. If you import you don't change the original cloud copy (you don't get a Save menu option). This looks like what you are doing.

If you Open from Cloud (not import) you will modify the cloud copy when you Save (check the menu and you will see a Save option in addition to Save a Copy.

If you don't have a Save option (only Save a Copy) then you are importing a fresh copy of the cloud file and not working on the original.

it would help if you turned on show touches in AP settings so viewers could see where (and what) you are tapping. :)

Gotcha. So there’s really no point “saving” since exporting with layers should maintain the edits correct?

Depends on export format selected. Some layers may be rasterised depending which output type is selected.
