Nikon Raw will not open

Recommended Posts

I have just loaded Affinity to edit ones photo's however the first Nikon Raw file I try to open the package crashes, it  has repeated for the second and third attempt. I get the feeling I have wasted my money.

I believe it should open in the developer.

The Nikon NEF files are about 45MB.

Is there a size limit, as is does not seem to open even the Jpg's of the raw files, at the moment it seems I have wasted my money.

Exactly what camera and lens did you use?

why would that make any difference ?

Because only some cameras and lenses are supported. It also depends on the OS you're using, and (if Mac) whether you've chosen to use the Serif raw engine or the Apple raw engine.

So no one knows the answer.

Someone from Serif may know the answer, or be able to work with you when their office reopens on January 2 after their Christmas break.

Just tried a 4 shot panorama, the 'New Panorama' Widget loaded the 4 raw images, and seemed to stitch them however when I hit the ok button the software fell over.

It is not as if my machine is not powerful enough, it's a core i7-8700@3.7GHz, 32Gb ram, windows 10 64bit it has run every other editor, was using photoshop and Dxo but thought affinity was better as a colleague has no problems although he is a canon user and I use nikon.

I just thought with the panorama and focus stacking widgets this would be ideal.  I have been wrong before and it looks like I am now.

I'm actually not on the Win PC, but I tried to open a D800e NEF (~46 MB) from here ...

Works ok here on the slow and pretty old outdated iMac (though opening that NEF takes some time)...

So I assume it's first of all more a APh Win version or installment problem. Do you use an actuall Microsoft .Net runtime version for Affinity Photo on Win, or did you tried to remove and reinstall the software? - How does your APh installment behave with other images or RAW files from some other cam, maybe some RAW to test from the Canon of your buddy there. Just try out in order to see and find out if it then maybe also crashes or not.

The photo you tried opens fine on my Windows system, v_kyr.

@G H: Perhaps you could provide one of your photos that doesn't load properly, and we could experiment with it?
