Affinity NOT appearing in Photos editing options

Recommended Posts

For some reason Affinity have not provided a Share access via Photos. The workflow I use is to open Affinity Photo and then use it to open a photo from the camera roll using the import from photos. Make your changes, choose Export (jpg, png etc), the on bottom left of Export screen choose Save Image. This will save your edited picture back to Photos.

Hello! I purchased Affinity for iPad to further edit holiday photo’s in my Apple Photos app, but I cannot get it to appear as an option in Photo’s Edit. Mine is an iPad Pro, purchased this summer. How can I fix this? Thank you!

As DM1 said, share access is not available however there are at least 2 additional work arounds, I attach some videos of the technique using the Documents by READDLE app and a second method use the Siri Shirtcuts app by Apple. Both apps are available for free in the App Store. I also attach the Siri shortcut although it’s easy to make your own too.

@Paul Mudditt Hey Paul, merry Xmas. How exactly do you set up the 'open in affinity' shortcut ( or shirtcut:D)? I'd like to set one up. It looks quite useful.

To the OP, you can also open Photos on top of Affinity Photo and just drag the png/jpg/etc button across to camera roll, when you see the green plus sign let go and the image will be copied across.

Thank you for such prompt responses, during what for many is a holiday week!  What I’m actually trying to do is have Affinity’s editing tools appear as ‘extensions’ in the natives Apple Photos program on my iPad.  I’ve read that I should be able to access much of Affinity’s capabilities from within Photos on the iPad.  Here’s one discussion about this from an Apple forum - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-9492 - though this refers to the Mac OS rather than iPad - but other posts and articles are explicit in referring to Affinity for iPad making extensions available in Photos for iPad.  In my case, when I open Photos after already installing and opening up Affinity, I do not see Affinity listed as an option under Apple ‘Photos - Edit - More...  ‘. So - how can I make Affinity’s tools appear as extensions in the Apple Photo’s app on my iPad Pro??

Simply put, with the existing iPad version you can’t since the feature has not been implemented, why? No idea, only the Serif team can answer as it is available in other programs, hence the work arounds we described above.

@Jeff Malachowsky Paul’s shortcut method works a treat. If you download the shortcuts app from the Apple store (free), you can make your own shortcut or use the attached shortcut file I made based on Paul's video. You will need the Shortcut app to load it but once loaded you access the shortcut directly via photo's share icon. Just select Shortcuts and you will see Open in Affinity Photo.

After investigating and trialling, to load a shortcut just download the .shortcut file, then tap on the file and choose copy to Shortcuts. Shortcut will open and allow you to look at the shortcut (what it does) and allow you to load it to shortcut app. This will make it available via Share sheet.

Thanks paul for showing how to make a shortcut. Very handy!

Yes, it appears the 'Open ln' + App is broken in iOS when used with the Photo gallery. Seems to work elsewhere. :51_scream:

Has something changed since Dec 28? This shortcut doesn’t work for me. Says “Conversion error. Open in failed because shortcuts couldn’t convert from Extension item to text.”

It’s fixed in yesterday’s update to the shortcut app !! Hurrah :D:D

Thank you so much,  DM1, for this solution.  I was tearing my hair out! However, I find it difficult to believe that Serif have failed to provide a direct access from "save" to the iPad photos folder, from which photos can be attached to emails etc.   This needs to be fixed.   Can Serif receive this feedback?

All, credit for Shortcuts to Paul Mudditt, he's the one who pointed me to this. :)

As to Serif and feedback, yes they monitor this site.

hello,
this topic has been quiet for a while, but my issue is closely related: on both my Macs (iMac intel 27") and MacBook Pro M1 (apple silicon) the individual editing options (like haze removal) do not show up in the share dialogue of Apple Photos*, while the generic "edit in Affinity Photos" is there.

image.png.101afcabd72ec08451b8d4ccf21177b8.png

Also, there is no option to select the individual editing actions in the system preferences > extensions (there is also only the generic "edit in ..." option).

what am I missing here?

*as shown in this affinity help page:
