s there a bug or am I misssing something here.

You are trying to paint on the Diamond layer or Is that what you mean to do?

If you want to paint on the image layer, (Background) or a pixel layer, you need to select it.

In the screeengrab you posted, the Diamond layer is selected. If you paint on the diamond the strokes would show.

It is grey (selected) where all the other layer are black (not selected)

Actually, the strokes would not show on the diamond either as you are painting in the same colour.

when I try to use a BRUSH on the test layer I can’t see anything painted

You need to 'select' the pixel layer first.

Perhaps you could show us a screenshot (or recording) where you're trying to paint on the pixel layer?

Thanks. However, with that much of the screenshot omitted I can't say anything more. Perhaps someone more familiar with the iPad interface than I will still be able to comment.

Could you post a shot of the brush selection menu and brush settings. You can turn on video recording in iPad control centre and show touch in AD.

Can you check the opacity of the selected pixel layer to ensure it’s not set to 0% as well.

Thanks everyone. I was experimenting with brush settings before playing with the image submitted for help. Opacity was at above 50 to 90 %. Not the culprit.

reset all settings to factory settings. Problem solved. Thanks again for your suggestions everyone. :)

How did you reset to factory settings?

Im having the same issue where my brush will not paint on a selected pixel layer.im on iPad, I follow the tutorial video step by step, and even the example posted in this thread and can’t get paint brush to paint.

In the official video it shows James being able to write his name on a new document or on a pixel layer, my paint brush won’t.

Are you using your finger or an Apple Pencil? If finger, turn off Touch for Gestures only setting.

@DM1 I was having the same problem and resetting the factory did not work for me.
However, you can find Factory Reset in documents < Defaults < Factory Reset  this will reset your brush tools, colour settings, etc.

My issue was that I accidentally activated the alpha protector on my screen. That’s why my brush strokes did not appear. Just unselect it and begin drawing.

1. Select the Paint brush tool
2. at the bottom of the screen tou will see Protect Alpha, deselect it.

Now you’re good to go.

I had this EXACT same problem. When I try to digitize illustrations, I encounter a lot of glitches. I can no longer do anything in that document basically... no erasing, no filling, no painting, etc.

My fix was to copy and paste the image into a new document and that worked. The other option is to export the document and open it as a new file. I find that if I do too many modifications, the app will start to get glitchy.

You must always be aware of the type of layer you are working on, the most common mistake in my experience  is to be working on an image layer or an adjustment layer. Generally you should rasterise an image layer before working on it. If you show a screen shot or a recording when your problem returns, always make sure you turn on show touches under preferences and pin the layer studio open so we can help you overcome your problems.
