Snapping corner of triangle to another object

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I want to snap the corner of the following triangle to the corner of the other shape displayed. I tried fiddling around with the snapping tool but when I align the shapes and press shift it always overlaps and doesn't connect the corner.

Any tips would be highly appreciated!

Use guides and make sure snap to guides is checked. Create a guide vertically and horizontally and snap both shapes to the guides intersection.

The only way I could get this to work is to convert the triangle to curves, have (minimally) either "Snap to shape key points" or "Snap to object geometry" enabled in the Snapping Manager, selecting all of its nodes with the Node Tool, & dragging one of the nodes onto a node of the other shape.

It is the same for other shapes besides triangles, so apparently they must be converted to curves & all their nodes selected for this to work.

If you want to retain the shape as a triangle

In the Transform Panel

Make a note of the rotation angle, then reset it to zero

Snap the corners as required

Still in the Transform panel select the bottom right rotation node

Re-input the rotation value you had previously

Yea,  CorelDraw does it easily. You can snap point to point and rotate from selected point to snap to another point. Im not seeing an option to snap point to point. Need it desperately.

This thread is more than two years old. Doesn’t the Point Transform Tool in the current version of Affinity Designer offer the functionality you’re looking for? :/

I understand how old the post is. The rules state, look for a post related to your issue and post there to avoid redundancies of issues. Yes, it helps. At first no because it kept scaling my object but i pushed all the buttons to constrain my size. Now it works. I had no idea that's what it did. To me it was just a regular transform tool that skewed and scaled from anchor point.  It's not exactly clear on its functionality. Thx for leading me back to it to figure it out. Needed to figure it out for sure or i was going to throw my mouse. lol. Also, the explanation above didn't resonate with me, so i couldn't place it to my issue. Not initially anyway.

Thanks to both of you. I had missed it on the general Guidelines page.

The meaning of the modification keys is stated in the Status bar and is always in front of the user. So it is not necessary to mention it in the Help, where the user could read it, but would have to remember it, which is quite difficult due to the number of possible situations.

Thanks for the precision, the status bar is a very useful thing that I almost always forget to consult, and it was the case this time too!
