trying to use Perlin Noise filter as mask?

Recommended Posts

How can I create a Perlin noise filter mask and make it adjustable? So far, the filter wants to keep creating new layer. I've tried alt clicking on an existing mask to see it then use Perlin, but still creating a separate layer. Also, is there any way to have re-adjustment of mask once created so I don't have to create a new one each time? Thanks.

You can create, adjust and drag the filter then onto the mask (onto the mask icon) afterwards. But you won't probably be able to change the Perlin noise filter settings via a double click on the mask or the filter then here.

The filter is a one shot deal, you can't go back to the layer and tweak the settings.

You might be better off using a Fill Layer: Layer > New Fill Layer  and fill it with white to show the image below. Now Rasterise to Mask: Layer > Rasterise to Mask and then using the Paint Brush select a brush from the Texture Palette or create or download brushes that can give a perlin effect and paint with shades from black to white to create a textured effect.

Black erases the image and white reveals or retains the image.

Make the Rasterised to layer mask a child of the layer you want to affect so that whatever is below will show through.
