cdpohl
Having copied the background layer and having applied a filter, say SCREEN, to brighten up the picture, I decide to apply a mask to apply the filter only to certain areas. I paint out or in the areas I want, however, when I then want to change the opacity of the areas changed, the entire picture is affected by the opacity change. Shouldn't the opacity only affect the areas I changed? Am I doing something wrong?
Staff MEB Posted April 4, 2015 Staff Share Posted April 4, 2015 Hi cdpohl, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) Can you post the file so i can check out what's going on? You may have to zip it first since the forum doesn't accept afphoto files. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
cdpohl
Just try the following: Copy the background layer of a photo, then apply the SCREEN filter to brighten the image. Then apply a mask to the copied background layer. Using the brush takes the affected areas back to the original background. Now use the opacity slider. It should work on the brushed areas and not on the SCREEN filter/layer. But, maybe, I approach this this wrong way.
Staff MEB Posted April 6, 2015 Staff Share Posted April 6, 2015 You forgot to invert the mask. The mask must be entirely black to perform as you want. To create it go to menu Layer ▹ New Empty Mask Layer, then apply the steps you described. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
