Perhaps it's because those were in use when I was a child, and I remember (and like) them better that the new ones! Also, I’ve never seen a real car with such tiny wheels, but perhaps that’s an intentional part of the ‘cartoon style’. Cartoons are generally flatter, lacking all those carefully crafted, photorealistic highlights and shadows. Caricatures, on the other hand, strive to look more representational, but with exaggerated features such as an abnormally large head on a person’s body in a portrait, or an unusually small set of wheels on a car.
