LesF
Affinity Designer rasterizes stock vectors that are saved as EPS format. Is there a workaround for this? I can't see it being an Adobe illustrator replacement if this can't be achieved.
Staff Dan C Posted December 14, 2018 Staff Share Posted December 14, 2018 Hi LesF, Welcome to the forums Could you please provide a sample file so we can look into this for you? It depends how the EPS has been exported, and the objects contained in the file. Staff Dan C Posted December 14, 2018 Staff Share Posted December 14, 2018 Thanks for the file, as I suspected this is due to the way the eps has been exported. Please see the below quote from one of our developers, Matt P. On 12/18/2015 at 7:20 AM, MattP said: It's entirely possible that the stock artwork is saved as a very low quality 'Illustrator EPS' which means it will have a terrible quality EPS file (low resolution image like you're seeing) but the 'Illustrator' part of that means that it also contains a full Illustrator file embedded inside it. We can't read the embedded Illustrator document inside an EPS file and if this is the case then there is no easy workaround, I'm afraid to say People create 'Illustrator EPS' files thinking "It's an EPS file so is openable in all software" which it is - but it's actually an Illustrator file placed inside a not-necessarily-very-good-quality EPS file. If you open it in Illustrator you get the impression the whole thing was there and it all worked brilliantly, but it's actually a bit of a lie. Most stock site eps downloads are the aforementioned Illustrator eps files, hence the result you're seeing. LesF
Hi Dan, Thanks for your response. I really want to try Affinity Designer and having worked in graphic design/print for over 30 years (yes pre-dating computers even!) this is a real deal breaker. Being so entrenched in Adobe products makes it difficult to transition to Affinity with this compatibility issue. A real shame. Appreciate your input, thanks
v_kyr
See also this related thread. - The overall problem is when file formats do have embedded proprietary data, which third party parsers often can't interpret/handle in the same manner as the originator of that file format.
