Nudge dimension display issues

Recommended Posts

When I use the nudge tool (arrow key) to move a selected object, dimensions to nearby objects are briefly displayed.

Unfortunately, this display is too brief for me to use effectively.  Is there some way to extend the duration?  Ideally, I'd like to be able to keep it around until I touch another (non-arrow) key or mouse click.

Also, the text is barely readable, mainly due to the white shadowing.   See attached screenshot.

It would also be nice if this font size scaled with the rest of the UI...

Thanks, love the apps!

On a Mac, if you select an object with the Move Tool & hold down the CMD key, moving the pointer around the canvas will show various distances from the object to other reference points, like to the edges or corners of other objects or to the edges of the canvas. I assume on Windows you can do the same thing by holding down the CTRL key.

This should be a turn on, off feature, it should also be related to layers selected, so if you select two or more layers, their relationship to each other can be displayed. All of this could be configured in Preferences, to display edge or centre of the objects vertical, horizontal, tangent and angle of object, this would be a big and very useful feature to have that can also be bound to a shortcut keyset.

Not asking a lot am I :11_blush:

I can image how that could create a lot of clutter, making it very difficult to see much.

That's why I added selected layers instead of everything, I'd say most of the time people want to know the relationship between a few items not all items, so it makes sense to have a selected layers option in a context bar.

OK, but I am still trying to understand how it would work if considerably more than 2 objects were selected & all their edge, center, angle, tangent, etc. relationships were displayed.

Hi nnangeroni,

Welcome to the forums :)

Unfortunately it isn't currently possible to change the display time of these figures, nor change the outline colour. I'll move this thread to feature requests now for our devs to consider adding the option in the future!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

Thanks, Dan.  I'll look forward (hopefully) to seeing some kind of improvement in a future release.  Just to reiterate, it would also be nice if the font size scaled with the rest of the UI as selected by Preferences > User Interface > Font UI Size.

Whoa, cool!  Very handy, thanks for this tip!
