Steps Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 I have to Picture Frames of different sizes and I want to apply the same Layer Effects to them. On one layer I defined an Radius of 10px, an Offset of 30px and Intensity of 30%. On the target layer this translates to Radius of 1,1px, Offset of 3,4px and Intensity of 30%. Only if source and target layer have the exact same size this works. Otherwise the result is garbage. Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080 Affinity Photo 1.7.2.471, Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471, Affinity Publisher 1.7.2.471
Steps Posted December 8, 2018 Author Posted December 8, 2018 This bug is really annoying and should be sorted out. Or do I have a big misunderstanding of how copy of layer effects should work between differently sized layers? I am used to the Photoshop behaviour that copied effects are always applied regardless of the layer size. Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080 Affinity Photo 1.7.2.471, Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471, Affinity Publisher 1.7.2.471
Steps Posted December 8, 2018 Author Posted December 8, 2018 I wonder that nobody else is complaining about that. Thas this is broken is very obvious if you design a photo collage and want all photos to have the same outline and shadow. Am I missing something? EDIT: If I set the "Scale with Object" option before creating a Style is works on some different sizes, but not all. I think the bug has something to do with that option going rampage. Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080 Affinity Photo 1.7.2.471, Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471, Affinity Publisher 1.7.2.471
Steps Posted December 10, 2018 Author Posted December 10, 2018 @Chris B Please tell me you can see and reproduce this problem. This one really gets me mad. :-D Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080 Affinity Photo 1.7.2.471, Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471, Affinity Publisher 1.7.2.471
Steps Posted December 11, 2018 Author Posted December 11, 2018 @Chris_K San you log this to the devs, please? I do not understand how this is broken and nobody cares. Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080 Affinity Photo 1.7.2.471, Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471, Affinity Publisher 1.7.2.471
Staff Sean P Posted December 12, 2018 Staff Posted December 12, 2018 Hi Steps, Thanks for letting us know - this is already a known issue that is with development to be fixed. I'll get it bumped with your comments! Steps 1
Steps Posted December 13, 2018 Author Posted December 13, 2018 Still broken in 1.7.0.206 Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080 Affinity Photo 1.7.2.471, Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471, Affinity Publisher 1.7.2.471
Steps Posted December 13, 2018 Author Posted December 13, 2018 @Sean P I just captured a screen recording to make sure that we are talking about the same behaviour as a bug. Please let me now if this is expected behaviour and I misconfigured something. I found that the shadow seems to be somehow relative to the pictures placed DPI. layer_effect_broken.mp4 Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080 Affinity Photo 1.7.2.471, Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471, Affinity Publisher 1.7.2.471
Staff Sean P Posted December 14, 2018 Staff Posted December 14, 2018 Hi Steps, As I mentioned above, pasting FX to a new object is giving different values - this is a known issue that is with development. With 'Scale with object' checked I've also asked development if pasting the FX should also affect the initial pasted size. Steps 1
Steps Posted June 22, 2019 Author Posted June 22, 2019 This is still broken and now also effects the released version. I hope the dev team did not forget about this issue. My current workaround is so select multiple layers and use the effects studio to set the same values to all of them. It would be nice to have one day the functions "paste fx" and the style studio working correctly. I bought the whole suite on Publishers release and now I'm fully commitet to Affinity in my workflow. Steps Posted July 8, 2019 Author Posted July 8, 2019 @Jon PAny chance that this will ever get fixed? Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080 Affinity Photo 1.7.2.471, Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471, Affinity Publisher 1.7.2.471
GRAFKOM Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 Maybe in Affinity version 3 or 4 There are many other things that have not been repaired.
Staff Jon P Posted July 9, 2019 Staff Posted July 9, 2019 I can't say when this will get fixed, it's logged and has been given some nudges. Steps 1 Serif Europe Ltd. - www.serif.com
GRAFKOM Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 So as I wrote, in version 3 or 4, for 5 or 10 years. Steps 1
pekranodon Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Just a follow up to this: Is this still on the radar? Are there any news on this? Seems still to be a thing in Oct. 2019 release (1.7.3.481)
Steps Posted October 17, 2019 Author Posted October 17, 2019 @pekranodon If not explicitely mentioned in a changelog you can consider bugs still existing. And some problems are really around since the beginning. Don't have too high hopes. I also changed my mind... From wanting Affinity to be perfect I now say to myself: "I can achieve what I want with this tool, even if complicated and time-consuming, and I paid only 50 dollars - so it's okay." Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080 Affinity Photo 1.7.2.471, Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471, Affinity Publisher 1.7.2.471
pekranodon Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 @Steps Yeah, I do understand that fixing those nasty bugs is only taking up resources and won't necessarily sell more licenses. Yet it would be nice to have something like a "no more features, only fixes" release. Something like MacOS Snow Leopard where nothing changed but the most annoying bugs were fixed. I don't know, just to show some respect to the customers who -- in good faith -- bought the software non the less and supported the development. Maybe I am too naive on this ... edit: Ok, tbh, I forgot the code name of that MacOS release. Maybe Snow Leopard wasn't the one I had in mind. But you get the idea... Steps 1
CarlM Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 Are you using the latest release version because it's working fine and as it should in release 1.7.3.481 Steps 1
Steps Posted October 19, 2019 Author Posted October 19, 2019 51 minutes ago, CarlM said: Are you using the latest release version because it's working fine and as it should in release 1.7.3.481 Nope, it's still broken in 1.7.3.481. Just tested it exactly the way as in the video above. Between two images it works with "Paste Style", but this is a whole other option that has even more side effects. "Paste FX" remains broken. Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080 Affinity Photo 1.7.2.471, Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471, Affinity Publisher 1.7.2.471
pekranodon Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 I can confirm that it's still broken in 1.7.3.481. It's super annoying, especially in big documents. Steps 1
