I am a newbie to editing photo.

Looking for an easy way to make use of "green screen" in Affinity.

I understand that there is no automated process like in some other SW that I am not going to name here, but is this going to be implemented in Affinity down the road?

Any advise to how I can easely process a batch of photo`s with green screen back drop?

Hoping someone can advice

Hi Smukken,

You wouldn't really be able to do this using a batch job but you could do this one image at a time using the techniques found in the below post.

Thanks

Callum

Built-in ???

What software has that built in? Even Photoshop does not have that. You can use general editing tools, like select Colour Range (which you can do in Photo) but I tried them and the results were always very 'average' and needed a lot of post correction.

I worked in a photo studio for a while and we used Primatte Chroma-key software and that was a pretty sophisticated and complex bit of software. Batch processing and so forth. Not only would it remove green or blue backgrounds, but it would analyse the edges and hair and remove the green tinge that always seem to get left behind. But even that was far from perfect and I don't ever remember an image that did not need some Photoshopping afterwards.

Primatte cost about $300 which is certainly not the sort of thing you would expect to see built in to software costing about $50 dollars. If there is software with that built in, I would expect it to be pretty poor quality. I can recommend Primatte and there are alternatives. Once processed in Primatte, Photo does a good job of tidying the images up.

You can do it all in Photo, which does it about as well as Photoshop, including removing edge problems and hair problems but it takes quite a bit of work too.

Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.

Maybe the OP means something like CutOut here (?).

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Maybe, but that seem to be just another specialist plug-in like Primatte. Not built into Photoshop.

It looks pretty good though and is certainly cheaper than Primatte.

AFAI remember works stand-alone or as a plug-in and does a good job for cutting out even fine hair/fur details etc. I must have somewhere an older Win version flying around. But I also remember that it's UI worked slower in performance for huge image files. Used that sometimes in the past for portrait works (cutting the subject out and applying/placing on other backgrounds etc.).
