Hi Roger Terry,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Select the Node Tool, drag a marquee around the nodes that surround the segment you want to straight up to select them (or ⇧ (shift)-click each one) then press and hold ⌥ (option/alt) and click on the node's handles to remove them, straightening the segment.

Hi, Roger terry,

If you have a line segment between two nodes, all you need to do is use the node tool to stretch any part of the line. No need to touch the node. Can be either sharp, as in the attached, or curved.

But it would be better if you could put a node into a line and, with a key combination, just click and straighten the line.

If you mean you want to straighten all the segments of a curved line like the A curve below to straight ones like the B one below, that is very easy to do. Just select all the nodes with the Node Tool & click the Sharp node button in the Convert group in the Context toolbar.

If instead you only want a one-segment straight line with only a pair of end nodes, one way is to select all the other nodes, delete them, & if necessary use the Sharp node button to convert the remaining two end ones to sharp points.

But if you just want to draw straight lines to begin with, you can set the Pen Tool's Mode to Polygon Mode (for straight segments) or Line Mode (for one-segment straight lines).
