photobum
I'm hoping you can help, but I recently purchased Affinity Photo and am having routine problems when using the selection tools. Each time the selection is slow to outline with marching ants, or doesn't make an outline, or I even get a message at the top of the screen that says Affinity is not responding when adding or subtracting to the selected area. Your thoughts??? Ken
photobum
I'm sorry, perhaps I should explain that I am new here and feeling my way around this forum. My computer is only two weeks old; an HP-all in one with 8 gigs of ram and a 1TB hard drive.
HVDB Photography
Could you provide a bit more info ? Windows or Mac? which selection tool do you use? How big is the file you're working on ? It's best you attach a screenshot and the file itself ? Pšenda
Yes, marching ants are a problem, and they take a lot of CPU performance. Try in Preferences/Performance/Display set GPU. More interesting is the type of processor (number of cores), or the type of GPU. And, of course, the operating system. R C-R
6 hours ago, Pattou said: On Windows, selection tools are ineffective, really. They are a real nightmare ! The selection brush tool is useless. It does not discriminate between very different pixels (hue, saturation, luminosity) ; I can achieve a kind of selection with the flood select tool but it needs [(many many many) x 10] mouse/pen clickings, and with a tolerance value of less than 8px ... otherwise, everything is selected. What the Selection brush tool selects depends on a combination of the brush size, how quickly or slowly you drag it across the document, & where you start the drag. If it is selecting too much, try using a smaller brush size and/or moving it more slowly. With the "Snap to edges" option enabled, you can also set the brush size smaller than some area with similar pixel values & just click in that area without dragging to select it. The Flood Select Tool has a "Contiguous" option. If it is not enabled, as you increase the tolerance by dragging the tool laterally across the canvas, it should progressively select more of the document. Note that its tolerance is in percent, not pixels. Staff MEB Posted July 11, 2019 Staff Share Posted July 11, 2019 Hi Pattou, If you haven't done yet, I recommend creating your own thread in the bugs or the feature requests section (in case of improvements) so we can easily follow/track the issues you are having. If you think something is not working as it should (a bug, not lack of features - that would be an improvement request for the feature request section) please provide a file with a specific example/case so we can try reproduce the issue here/follow along with you. The original issue on this thread is not related with the issues you are describing. If you already created a tread for this can you please point it out/link to it? Thanks.
