firstdefence
Try using Cmd + J (Ctrl + J on windows) this duplicates the object Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... firstdefence
You're welcome. using Cmd + J (Ctrl + J on windows) has some unexpected benefits, if you duplicate an object then move it then duplicate again, it will also duplicate the movement, the same will go for rotating an object around a central point so you can make circles of shapes. https://affinity.help/designer/English.lproj/pages/ObjectControl/duplicate.html Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... And the same for other transformations (resizing or shearing/skewing). However, copying (Cmd+C) and pasting (Cmd+V) should also work if all you want is to create a copy directly on top of the original. In addition to providing access to the ‘Power Duplicate’ feature, the Duplicate command bypasses the system clipboard (unlike copying and pasting, which overwrites the clipboard contents). firstdefence 1 Quote Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.4.1 (iPad 7th gen)
dutchshader
And there is also Ctrl+drag with snapping or Alt+drag without snapping Quote intel core i5, 16GB 128Gb ssd win10 Pro Huion new 1060plus. philips 272p 2560x1440px on intel HD2500 onboard graphics Razer Tartarus Chroma
KellyD
Thank you for the elaboration on the theme and for the additional information, all of you @dutchshader and Alfred and @firstdefence I'm not sure what you mean just yet as I am amateur to graphic design and completely clueless - however, I hope to come back to your advice later and be able to understand and use your tips! firstdefence
Alfred
16 minutes ago, KellyD said: I'm not sure what you mean just yet Copy (Cmd+C) puts a copy of the selected object/s on the clipboard. Duplicate (Cmd+J) and Command-drag both create a copy without overwriting the clipboard contents, but the first of those two methods puts the copy directly on top of the original whereas the second method puts it wherever you drag to; you can also duplicate in place by long-clicking (i.e. holding down the mouse button without moving the cursor) while holding down the Cmd key. Option-drag works just like Command-drag, except that you hold down the Option/Alt (⌥) key rather than the Cmd (⌘) key, and it allows you to position the copy freely instead of having it snap to the snapping grid or to guides or other objects. Like if there are several layers selected the cmd+J will add each new layer above the old layer so they will not be in a contiguous block. Where cmd+V will keep the new layers together. Which makes them easier to group. Plus a cmd+J will place the duplicate always in the same place as the copied layer (unless being used as a power duplicate). But cmd+V will place it in whatever portion of the screen is visible at the moment, making some moves easier like trying to drag some very small object completely across the drawing. If some panels have just been used then the cmd+C & V along with many other hotkeys will be ignored. Like if the fx panel is open and used then until the drawing is clicked these hotkeys will not work. For some reason the cmd+J is an exception and will still work.
