Photo 'Current Layer & Below'

As I always want to do my inpainting non-destructive on a new layer and have to change this questionable setting I'm with the OP to change that.

Windows 10 Pro x64 (1903). Intel Core i7-9700K @ 3.60GHz, 32 GB memory, NVidia RTX 2080

For me, I don't understand why only the inpainting tool always defaults back to current layer only. The healing brush and clone stamp tool don't. I'm sure there was a reason for this decision for this, but I at least wish we had an option to have it stay or default back to current layer only.

+1 on this - have to change this every time I start up. It would be nice if all the tools would recall the last settings.

 

On Windows 10 clone and inpainting always  revert back to Current Layer.

Pen tool - is it possible to keep rubber band selected?
