Faded and lackluster RAW images.

Recommended Posts

Dear friends,

I'm new to the forum and I just bought Affinity Photo, I state that I'm not an expert in photo editing.

I shared my experience with a friend who is more practical than me, he noticed a strange thing, the images opened with Affinity are faded and less brilliant than other similar programs.

I send you an example photo.

The photo was made with a Canon 7D SLR

Can you explain the reason for these differences?

Welcome to the Affinity forums!

There are several possible reasons, but I think a bit more information is needed. One important question: are you using Windows or MacOS?

One possible reason is that most image processing software makes adjustments to the RAW image before displaying it - AP  may not be doing this.   If you have a look at the Assistant Manager while you're in the Develop Persona you can see what's being changed (if anything).  In particular, look to see if a tone curve is being applied.

Hi Fabrizio Bucci,

Welcome to the forums :)

We can certainly look into this for you, could you possibly upload  a copy of your RAW file to the following link?

I would like to make a clarification, as I wrote, the software that is the DEMO version that installed my friend, I with the version purchased I have no problems with viewing.
Last night we did another test, we opened in RAW file with Affinity Photo and converted to PS file, then opened in PS and even there the image was faded and missing the tone data, we could not see the graph in tone in PS CS4.

Thanks for your file. I've opened this in both Windows Photo Viewer and Affinity Photo and the image appears visually similar -

This may be different on your machine for a few reasons, firstly please open Edit>Preferences>Colour and check your settings against mine -

Secondly, you'll need to check your develop settings. Open any image in Affinity, then go to View>Assistant Manager> Develop Assistant and check your settings here against mine -

Does setting your colour settings to match mine here solve your issue?
