debbru
Can someone tell me why I can only create 3 Presets in Affinity Photo Beta, is this the limit or can I create as many as I want
firstdefence
I can create loads Debbru so there is no limitation, all beta releases are full functional... or should be. High Key, Low Key, Pink Jelly, Algae and Twilight are all added presets I created just now. What happens when you try to create a fourth preset? iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... debbru
Thank you for your reply. When I do the same steps as I did to create the first three presets, as you can see in the screenshot. If I want to add a fourth preset, the create preset tab is greyed out

I am not sure of the best way to check for that, but maybe scrolling through the Presets list looking for ones with the custom icon would help? debbru
Sorry what do you mean by custom icon. I've been choosing Abolute size under mode

Any custom presets you add have a different, sort of person-shaped icon that looks like this: All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.4.1 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 Affinity Photo 1.10.8; Affinity Designer 1.108; & all 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.
debbru
Before I create a preset what do I select under Mode e.g Absolute size, Custom ratio. If I should be selecting something else, let me know

If I should be selecting something else, let me know The Mode you select depends on how you want to crop. Absolute Size is just that, a specific size (6 by 4 inches, 2000 by 3000 px, etc.). Custom ratio is a ratio but the size can be adjusted using the crop tool handles as long as the ratio is kept (e.g., a 4:3 ratio could be 4 inches by 3 inches, 8 inches by 6 inches, 2 inches by 1.5 inches, etc.) -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.4.

From the earlier screenshot, @debbru is running the Mac Affinity Photo beta. AFAIK, the current Mac beta build is 1.7.0.102. At least on my Mac running High Sierra, I have no difficulties creating custom cropping presets or using them with any of the three cropping methods. However, for some but not all of the built-in presets -- assuming I understand how the cropping methods are supposed to work -- the "Resample & Crop" method may not be working correctly, at least if that is supposed to crop the canvas to the preset's dimensions. I'm still a bit confused about which ones don't do that. walt.farrell
I am not aware of any Serif-supplied videos for the Photo or Designer betas yet. I don't expect them until sometime after the final 1.7 release is available, but only Serif staff will know their plans. -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.4.

Then I set the parameters that mode offers in that toolbar to whatever I want for my custom preset. Finally, I use the 'hamburger' menu item "Create Preset..." in the dropdown list of crop presets to create it, choosing whatever name I want for it & whichever category I want it to appear in. Neither the "Unconstrained" nor "Original Ratio" Modes allow me to creation custom presets. I assume that for whatever reason(s) this is by design, at least at this still early stage of beta development.
