Creating Presets

Recommended Posts

I can create loads Debbru so there is no limitation, all beta releases are full functional... or should be. High Key, Low Key, Pink Jelly, Algae and Twilight are all added presets I created just now.

What happens when you try to create a fourth preset?

When I do the same steps as I did to create the first three presets, as you can see in the screenshot. If I want to add a fourth preset, the create preset tab is greyed out

Just guessing, but that is probably because you are trying to duplicate a custom preset you already created. I am not sure of the best way to check for that, but maybe scrolling through the Presets list looking for ones with the custom icon would help?

Sorry what do you mean by custom icon. I've been choosing Abolute size under mode

The built-in presets use a triangular Affinity logo icon like those shown in your screenshot of the crop presets list. Any custom presets you add have a different, sort of person-shaped icon that looks like this: 668537189_customcroppreseticon.jpg.bac87708bfe76873c43990ce5322297c.jpg

Before I create a preset what do I select under Mode e.g Absolute size, Custom ratio. If I should be selecting something else, let me know

The Mode you select depends on how you want to crop. Absolute Size is just that, a specific size (6 by 4 inches, 2000 by 3000 px, etc.).

Custom ratio is a ratio but the size can be adjusted using the crop tool handles as long as the ratio is kept (e.g., a 4:3 ratio could be 4 inches by 3 inches, 8 inches by 6 inches, 2 inches by 1.5 inches, etc.)

Can someone tell me why I can only create 3 Presets in Affinity Photo Beta, is this the limit or can I create as many as I want

By the way, when did you create those?

There have been reports for both Windows and Mac that in the current beta (.188) cropping presets can not be used or created.

From the earlier screenshot, @debbru is running the Mac Affinity Photo beta. AFAIK, the current Mac beta build is 1.7.0.102. At least on my Mac running High Sierra, I have no difficulties creating custom cropping presets or using them with any of the three cropping methods.

However, for some but not all of the built-in presets -- assuming I understand how the cropping methods are supposed to work -- the "Resample & Crop" method may not be working correctly, at least if that is supposed to crop the canvas to the preset's dimensions.

I'm still a bit confused about which ones don't do that. :(

I created them yesterday

Thanks. From what R C-R said I must be misremembering seeing reports of a problem on Mac.

I am not aware of any Serif-supplied videos for the Photo or Designer betas yet. I don't expect them until sometime after the final 1.7 release is available, but only Serif staff will know their plans.

First, with the Crop Tool selected, I choose the appropriate Mode I want on the Context toolbar -- either "Custom Ratio" or "Absolute Size." Then I set the parameters that mode offers in that toolbar to whatever I want for my custom preset. Finally, I use the 'hamburger' menu item "Create Preset..." in the dropdown list of crop presets to create it, choosing whatever name I want for it & whichever category I want it to appear in.

Neither the "Unconstrained" nor "Original Ratio" Modes allow me to creation custom presets. I assume that for whatever reason(s) this is by design, at least at this still early stage of beta development.
