Handling of placed PDF docs (Font Problem)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I tried to place a PDF in a publisher document as linked document.  I encountered a problem, as there were missing fonts. When I tried the same thing in Indesign, there were no problems, the PDF was just displayed correctly, of course not editable but to edit it was not my intention anyway.

Why is that behaviour in Publisher? Is there a special setting in Publisher? Or is it a bug? Or intentionally?

Same old problem that's been asked many times. The only workaround I find is to convert the pdf to image. The problem is, if it's a grayscale and the other images are in color (cmyk), the grayscale will also appear as 4 colors.

Depending on what other software you have available, you might be able to convert the text to curves in another program before importing it into the Affinity apps, as a workaround until they get this fixed.

Examples:

https://startscreenprintingnow.com/convertfonts/     (uses Acrobat Pro, which some people already have and is GUI-based)

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/28797418/replace-all-font-glyphs-in-a-pdf-by-converting-them-to-outline-shapes    (uses Ghostscript from the command line, which is free)
