daniel leclerc
Hello. I paint in black in the mask. The strokes appears in the background layer instead of in the mask itself. It hides the layer anyway. Any reasons for that?? Tks.

daniel leclerc
Well, that i know. The subject is that the brush strokes aren't visible on the mask thumbnail itself in the layer panel. Tks for answering me. It gave me the opportunity to discover your tutos . Affinity Photo 1.6.5.123 Windows 10 / 64 bits-processor
Staff Gabe Posted November 18, 2018 Staff Share Posted November 18, 2018 Hi all. They will become visible once you make some more changes. Basically, they get updated on the next step you take. So you if have just brushed, you will not see them until you brush again or so another change to the image. Thanks, Gabe.
daniel leclerc
I tried what you suggested. The brush strokes appear in the background and those on the layet mask have nothing to see with the reality.
Staff MEB Posted November 19, 2018 Staff Share Posted November 19, 2018 Hi daniel leclerc, Welcome to Affinity Forums What you are expecting to see is the thumbnail displaying the painted black parts in relation to the whole image size proportionately, however the mask thumbnail only displays the are area occupied by the mask itself as it it were a single "object". You can check this easily if you paint a small rectangle on the mask on the left top corner of the image area for example - the mask's thumbnail will only display a black rectangle as if the rest of the image space to the bottom and left didn't exist. Although a little less intuitive this is working as designed. If you want to see the mask as a greyscale image, press and hold ⌥ (option/alt) and click the mask's thumbnail in the Layers panel.
