Brush behaves funny (in mask layer)

Recommended Posts

I wanted to refine a mask using black/white brush (Basic - 16px, round brush) and noticed funny behaviour. Screenshots explain the issue the best.

I'm having the exact same problem. This is what it looks like when I try to paint over a mask with the paint brush tool:1183094314_Screenshot2018-11-18at21_54_34.thumb.png.e9b940904803d8629949ed03b4a4cc16.png

Notice that it's a round brush with the hardness set to 0. Affinity Photo Beta 1.7.0.98 on macOS Mojave 10.14.1. Disabling Metal compute acceleration in the preferences solves the problem for me, but I'm using Metal with the current stable version of Affinity Photo without any issues.

They added acceleration for additional features with this version, so it is probably hitting something in the new code that wasn't there before.

I didn't know that there's already a newer build available because it didn't show up when I used the auto update feature of the previous version.

... yeah, its beta, so even this searching for updating is not working well? However i found it also only manually. Its maybe better to look here in the main-beta-topic-thread from day to day... afaik SERIF will update the headline to current version number as soon there is a new build. But the new metal is really great, isnt it? I got a very big performance kick for phat macros and small repeating brushes... great job :-))))

It did work in the Affinity Publisher beta, so I assumed I'd be able to use it in Photo beta, too. Never mind.

It certainly is!

Haha :D – that's totally reasonable! But I've been using @kaffeeundsalz since my very first days on the internet. In fact, the nickname is so old I can't even remember the story behind it.
