DaleC Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Hi, I'm creating a bulletin in Publisher and right away I'm noticing several issues, some of usability and some that seem more like bugs. 1. Usability: Columns. I finally found a place to set the number of columns, but only in a text block. I'd really like to see a way to set columns for the whole document. Also, even in that place where I could set columns, there's no way to set the space between columns, so the two columns are butted right up against each other. Yes, I can remedy that paragraph by paragraph using the text ruler, but it would be easier to be able to set those for the whole spread or document... 2. I imported a pdf file (actually opened it), and two problems followed. I had chosen the option for keeping text as editable as possible, but still got many small text blocks scattered around the page. There was one large text block I could paste the others into, but it would have been better to have had more of the text in one block... Second, I had created a document with two pages... Then I opened this pdf and copied a page of the text and copied it into the other document. I'm not sure what I might have done wrong, but both of the pages vanished and I ended up only with the one page that I thought I pasted text from into one of those pages. Weird. 3. In the first document, I had set the rulers to measure inches and set margins at a half inch. But when I pasted the text from the opened pdf file into the second page, not only did I lose pages 1 and 2, I also ended up with a 1 page document with rulers measuring pixels and no margins at all. When I attempt to change the measuring increments back to inches, the rulers still measure pixels. I don't know how to change that! Thanks!
fde101 Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 for #1 - there should be a setting for that in the same place you set up the column count - for column guides on the spread those settings are in the guides manager
walt.farrell Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 @DaleC For #1 there are two places you can specify a column count for a Text Frame. One is in the Context Menu while you have the Text Frame Tool selected. That one allows you to specify only the number of columns. The more useful one is in the Text Frame studio/panel (View > Studio > Text Frame) which also allows you to control the gutter. For #3: To change the units shown on the ruler, right-click on the unit designator (e.g., px) where the horizontal and vertical rulers intersect, and you can specify the units you want. -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Chris_K Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Hi DaleC 2 and 3 sounds like simply having switched to another document where setting are different but without being able to see this I can;t really say. Did it only occur the once or has it happened again since? Cheers Serif Europe Ltd - Check the latest news at www.affinity.serif.com
