bordercross
How does one use the Node Tool to select multiple nodes quickly? The only way I can see to do this is by clicking on every single node individually. There must be an easier way. See video of me trying to select nodes with the marquee. Any help is appreciated. bordercross
As you can see from the video I tried this and it does not work. Curiously upon further investigation I noticed that it does not work on freshly created straight lines made with the Pen Tool. If the lines are modified in some way, then it starts working. Is this a bug? Nodes.mov
toltec
@bordercross Couldn't watch your video first time round as I was not on a PC. Odd, it works perfectly for me. These are all freshly created straight lines. As you can see, all the top nodes were selected with a marquee. I can also press down shift and add nodes to the selection, as I did with the three nodes on the horizontal lines. You don't say what app or OS you are using but that was done in Designer 1.6.5.123 on a Windows 10 PC. I also tried the same thing with Photo 1.6.5 .123 and that worked properly too. Maybe a Mac thing? Quote Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.
firstdefence
Mac wise it gets odd, watch the gif below, I made multiple lines, the vertical ones are all duplicates of the first, the horizontal lines are just a duplicate of the vertical lines. The node tool is selected all the layers are selected and then I get this odd selection. Gear maker
Yes this is a known bug, for a couple years now at least. Here Quote iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) with macOS Sierra
bordercross
Well, hopefully it will be fixed soon in the next release 1.7? I was also surprised that the Node Tool can only select nodes if the shape is first selected with the Move Tool. That does not seem very intuitive. Gear maker
I can select something by cmd + clicking on a feature while in the node tool. I'm running it on a mac, maybe a PC is different. bordercross
Yes, this also work on the Mac, but I meant that using the Node Tool to draw a selection marquee around a group of nodes is not possible unless the objects are first selected by the Move Tool. bordercross
The problem of not being able to select Horizontal or Vertical line segment nodes with a marquee still seems to persist in the most recent Beta version of Affinity Designer 1.0.7.11. Only after selecting every individual node and moving it can they be selected with a marquee. This is extremely tedious when working with many individual line segments. AD's node tool will select nodes by dragging a marquee over them. Those selected will move all at once if in the tool context bar "snap all selected nodes while dragging" is active. The issue is making a marquee node selection on a straight line where all its nodes are either horizontally or vertically aligned. It is a known bug, as confirmed in this recent reply by @Sean P. firstdefence
Pressing Option (Alt) and then dragging a free-hand marquee around vertically and horizontally aligned nodes will select them, but as with previous comments you have to select the layers you want to select from, not even grouping the layers saves you from this tedium. Gear maker
firstdefence, thanks for this note. Please note that you have to be in version 1.7 to have the option of doing a free-hand marquee. 1.6 doesn't have the option.
