export freezing indefinitely

Recommended Posts

I am struggling to export an 1.3 MB semi-complex file from Affinity Designer. I have been able to export large and complex files in the past, even up to 20 MB with lots of detail. I have tried cleaning up my computer systems, (defragging, deleting junk files, you name it). When I try to export a file it freezes on the Export Item window and doesn't even load. Affinity has been generally slow/will freeze when I am working on detailed parts of my designs but not being able to export is becoming a nightmare. Please chime in if you have any feedback for me. Thanks!!

Thanks :)

Sure, here's the file:

As I have thought about the last few days I realized that I probably deleted or disabled a program necessary for the exporting process. Originally, Affinity was just freezing up and being slow but it was still exporting. Do you know of any programs Affinity requires to allow exporting? Thanks!

Exported in about 10 minutes on this relatively underpowered laptop. PDF for print 300 dpi. Export window came up right away and the only 'slow down' was choosing the location. Slow but steady. I sure wouldn't want to do any of your larger files.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

That drawing expands to a huge number of layers - it takes almost 5 mins to export to JPEG on my i7 and even longer to export to PDF.  There are probably better ways , but since you can't flatten the drawing you could try this -

Take one of your "Star Dust" layers and change the fill colour to white.

Copy it into a new drawing with a transparent background and then export it as a PNG.

Start with your Background and then place the PNG over it a number of times  - once you've got the first row done you can copy and paste a row at a time.  Doing that took me less time than an export.

From what I can tell, the file includes a huge number of child layers with large, 1024 px radius Inner Shadow & Outer Glow effects applied to them. My guess is that is what makes the export take so long. For that matter, on my i5 powered iMac, it takes several seconds just to display everything after changing the zoom level.
