Bug with page box (placed PDF)

Recommended Posts

I installed version .162 and from the few things I saw, there's a lot of improvments and interesting new features.

One is the Page box, that permit to import a PDF as an image (not a PDF we can modify in the page as previous version), and choose which part we want to be displayed.

I place a PDF page (exported for print, with bleed and all).

  • The frame is smaller than the A4 original page, and the PDF fit the frame: it's ok, it's at 25% only.
But there's a bug: when I change the Page box option, the page appear at 100% (real size), in the little frame (=> only the left corner is displayed).
  • We can't resize the PDF page, or resize the frame, since it behave like an image: I insert it in another frame, this one I'll be able to resize with option "lock children", so only part of the PDF's page will appear => OK.
Once in another frame, I can't modify the Page box option nothing seems to change when I modify the Page box option.
  • I did some tests with different frames: when I zoom in, only the 100% left corner of the PDF page appears… if I zoom out the full page appears as it should be (at 25% as I placed it).

I had the same issue this afternoon...

Tried importing some large 'older' PDFs from inDesign Export....to test page options but ...pretty much ground to a halt

As above but also...when you try to edit the embedded file the first page is 'destroyed' with elements off the page yet displays correctly as thumbnail in page panel initially (updates after you edit....)

So created a simple 4 page (A4) doc in APu (with bleed) and exported as PDF...This worked fine..

When I tried to modify the embedded page, only the left corner was displayed… I resize it to fit the page, saved, and it was OK in the other document where it was imported.

I checked again the embedded file I hadn't closed: it was larger than the page (centered, ±120%) again!
(I just switched from a document to the other one, without doing anything).

I suspect there are setting that need to be saved somewhere…

There's a bug at export too.

There's definitely something wrong with page 1 of a placed multipage PDF in terms of most of it being missing. Another issue is that missing fonts are flagged up so you don't even know that font substitution has happened.

I have these problems from the beginning, and not only when I want to edit the placed PDF.
When I place a PDF in a new 162 document, the PDF pages are displayed at the intended size, but the content is much larger than the page. It doesn't happen with all PDFs, but with most.

I've had problems with placing PDFs into APublisher Affinity with PDFs made by Affinity Designer, Adobe PDF Library 15.00, InDesign, Illustrator. They open okay (apart from font issues) but can't be "Placed" without most of the first page being missing. The same files can be placed okay in Affinity Designer.

Do all the PDFs that do this originate from InDesign? It could be they are setting boxes in their PDF export in a way that we are not reading properly

No, none of the PDFs in question come from InDesign.
The effect seems completely arbitrary and seemingly unpredictable. Sometimes the effect seems to depend on how quickly the PDF is placed after confirming the Open dialog. Sometimes it depends on how slowly I draw the frame, or whether I click or drag. It's just not predictable.

Part of the problem seems to be that the first page of a multipage PDF is given a size of around 1/3rd of what it should be but the content remains the correct size, hence the cropping.
