Confusing menu structure

Recommended Posts

Hello,
i found a confusing interface desicion (?) in the view menu.
At first i thought it wouldn´t work until i discovered it expands to the left.
While the indicator points to the right, and everything else expands to the right.
Is that intentionally?

Yes i am using the newest version of publisher and windows.

If there is no room to expand a menu item to the right on your monitor it will automagically expand it to the left

It's a Windows thing, nothing to do with Publisher as such

The Problem here is it, that it has plenty room to the right. More than 4x the necessary space.  Additionally "View Mode" is the only one which expands to the left. "Studio" for example expands to the right and it´s way bigger.

On your screenshot your "View" menu looks very close to the Tools panel like you have the application reduced in size.

Can you upload a full size screenshot (like mine below)  Showing the View > View Mode menu expanded

Also what version of Windows are you running and what is your screen resolution?

Hi Gmit,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Check this setting please:
1. open the Control Panel. (Classic View)
2. click on the Tablet PC Settings icon
3. under the Handedness, select the correct setting

But shouldn't that affect all the submenus, not just a single one as the OP reported?

Affecting just one like that, is the bug in Windows or in the Affinity application?

I just checked, the setting is only available on my notebook with touchscreen. So if i had the same problem on the desktop that would be difficult^^
On my notebook it was set to right handed, when i changed it to left handed the problem is gone.

It's also available on my desktop with a drawing tablet attached.

I had the same problem in Publisher where the sub-menus went to the left by default unless there wasn't room for them.
I don't have a tablet computer and I couldn't see any Tablet PC options in Control Panel.
However, when I plugged my drawing tablet in (hadn't used it in ages) I could then find the settings and change them.
After I removed the drawing tablet the menus stayed as I would expect (to the right).
Publisher is the only bit of software where I had this issue so it seems like Publisher is the only one that actually did things right. This may be why it was unexpected.
