You’ll lose quality if you continually export to a lossy format such as JPEG and then reopen the exported image each time you work on it. Save the edited image as an Affinity file, export it to the desired format and then reopen the Affinity file the next time you want to make changes. Exporting to a new file is highly recommended, since it allows you to go back to a previous version and avoids the risk of ending up with a corrupted file if something goes wrong during the export process.

If I saved it as a PSD file, is it ok?

It might be, but I wouldn’t risk it!

How do I save it as an AF file

Just use ‘Save As...’ in the usual way.

Please be aware that any text layers will be rasterized if you export to PSD format.

What do you mean by rasterize

I mean converted to a raster image (i.e. a collection of pixels) so that it’s no longer editable text. If you reopen a *.afphoto file in Affinity Photo you will be able to edit the text in any text layers, but if you export to PSD and then open the *.psd file in APh (or Photoshop, or PSE) you’ll find that it no longer contains any text layers.
