Problem with expanding strokes with spiral curves?

Hello,

So far Affinity designer seems like a step up from Illustrator CS6 in at least a few ways, and I'm very hopeful about dropping illustrator entirely.

Right now I'm having trouble expanding strokes. I attached a screenshot. The top one is the expanded stroke, the bottom is the original. Is there a trick to expanding strokes that almost make a spiral shape? That's where the problem seems to occur.

There’s a long-standing problem with the accuracy of the ‘Expand Stroke’ feature in Affinity Designer. The best workaround at the moment is to enlarge the curve by a factor of ten or more, expand the stroke and then shrink the shape back down to its original size.
